Romney supporters: Is tyranny OK as long as it is at a state level and not a federal level?

This appears to be the argument that Romney made last week at his speech. Forcing someone to buy something they don't want is only wrong when the federal gov't demands, but when a state gov't demands it we should all lay down our objections and allow Americans' property right and rights to purusue their own version of happiness to get slapped around with our approval. How should Romney answer when he's asked this question at a debate?
