What are alternatives to complete residing our home?

We just resided and our painter came and said several things are wrong and he would (he sides too) reside particular parts of the house and make all these changes for a hefty sum. At this point what is done is done and as the years go by fixes can be made as material may go bad (I have experience that not everything on a house siding goes bad at once) To redo is completly out of our price range now, We did try and cut costs and thus had some mistakes done (a friend with experience didi it). I cant sleep at night due to the worry. The only idea that is helping me feel somewhat okay is that maybe if somethng goes wrong fix that particular plank or even one side of the house at a time. Does this sound okay and what other ideas do you have that I might be able to do? (there is also a possicility that things may have been done okay although not necessarily as the warranty will cover-I know we are dumb hiring a friend albeit he has experience)
