What is he doing? And Why?

There is this guy who I became attracted to some while back, so I asked him out. He said no and gave me the impression that he didn't like me. The problem is, ever since then, he's been following me, or having me followed. He watches me, claims me amongst his friends, shows anger and a bit of jealousy, but he doesn't talk to me, doesn't smile with me, and shuns me every chance he gets. When I'm speak of guy friends in his hearing who are really just friends, but he's never seen me with to know this, he gets edgy, anxious, and to some extent, spiteful. When he's ured within the same conversation that this friend is in fact a friend, he calms. I don't understand it! What is he doing? What does he want? We're from different worlds, and as far as career goes, we're at different levels in our lives. We both push, we're both ambitious, we're both stubborn and we're both go getters. Differences, he's outgoing and highly sociable, I'm quiet and a bit of a loner, he's indirect, I'm direct, he's a bit of a meanie . . . to put it nicely, and I'm kind of the nice girl. So directly, I can't help but think he hates me, indirectly, he won't let me go. Someone PLEASE explain.
